Remaining, Leaving, Travelling? The Making of Absence and of “Remaining”: Between Individual Desires, Family Solidarity and Transnationalism

Focusing specifically on non-migrant Algerian women experiencing, on a daily basis, the absence of their families, who have settled abroad, this article sheds light on the interdependence between the mobility of the those who leave in a migratory context and that of the women who have remained. How do the absent shape the spatial and social trajectories of those who remain? How are the dynamics of leaving, remaining and travelling interwoven with individual desires, family solidarity and the transnational nature of family?
