Sonographies, or the Silence of Factories. Protocol for a Listening Stroll
By Anne Dubos
English
Drawing on a survey of the soundscapes of the Pilat Regional Nature Reserve, Sonographies proposes a reflection on listening as a gesture. It occurred that during the survey I had to face the impossibility of producing a dataset, as the inhabitants were unable to describe the quality of the silence. By listening closely, I was nevertheless able to grasp the architecture of the area’s historical and social heritage. I therefore understood that I was dealing with a population whose sense of hearing had not been impaired, but rather whose taxonomy had never been activated or passed on.
