The Dead Questioned, an Investigative Movie in Palermo

How can we renew the anthropological approach to perception? To evoke my grief both when I learned of my uncle’s death and when I remember my father’s death, I explore the apocalyptic situation of the Rotoli cemetery in Palermo, where 1,500 bodies are waiting to be buried. I view documentary film as a work of art that emphasizes the intimate and the singular, focusing on impressions, emotions and subjective accounts, in order to capture the unspoken and individual experiences in a chaotic social context. The outcome is a hybrid film that blends documentary sequences with more experimental and contemplative ones, seeking to provoke emotions and deepen the understanding of the social group studied, beyond the merely realistic representation.
