Popular theater may originate from the circus. This is what a large number of South-American examples show. Dramatic representations from the end of the nineteenth century in Argentina and Uruguay were born in this way. New characters appear alongside acrobats or clowns. The prestige of the “character” on whom the people focus their imagination comes first from a place of physical exploits and acrobatic surprises.
